From Olive Oil to Artificial Intelligence
As unusual as it may sound, BeMyEye’s beginnings can be found in olive oil. And, as with most businesses today, our creation came about as a resolution to a problem – one that our founder, Gian Luca Petrelli, was experiencing first hand.
As Gian Luca decided to start selling his family-owned company’s olive oil in the United States, he wanted to make sure that his products were properly displayed in stores.
But without sales reps on the ground, he had no viable means of doing so from his base in Italy: that’s when he thought about crowdsourcing the information – and when the idea of BeMyEye was born.
Although the project was only a few months old and the V1 of the product was still being built, BeMyEye was awarded “Best Outsourcing Project” by Accenture.
Having only a raw version of its mobile app to crowdsource store audits for its clients, the newly born firm was able to land its first contract with an Italian company.
The first significant round of financing was raised among a pool of Business Angels and 360 Capital Partners to help BeMyEye expand internationally.
BeMyEye was nominated by StartupItalia among the 100 best Italian startups, as the company kept on growing both its crowd of freelance auditors and its client portfolio.
Luca Pagano joined BeMyEye with two clear objectives: structure the company and accelerate its growth.
BeMyEye’s community of on-demand store auditors kept on growing and reached the ‘500k members’ landmark.
As French competitor LocalEyes was acquired, the Product and the Tech teams were relocated to Paris.
The 2nd significant round of venture capital financing was done with P101 and Nauta Capital.
A new award for BeMyEye, this time delivered by Forbes, that included the company among the “5 Italian startups to follow”.
As British competitor Task360 was acquired, the company’s headquarters were moved to London.
Another significant landmark was reached, as BeMyEye’s crowd of freelance auditors was active in more than 10 countries.
Round C was completed with FII Tech Growth as “Lead Investor”.
BeMyEye was operating in more than 15 countries.
BeMyEye acquired Streetbee, a Russian company specialized in Computer Vision: thanks to that acquisition, the company became able to translate pictures from retail stores into shelf KPIs in real-time.
BeMyEye’s community reached 3 million people and was active in more than 20 countries.
BeMyEye enters Deloitte’s coveted selection of the top European fast-growing technology companies.
BeMyEye launched a mobile app for field reps to run fast and reliable audits, using Image Recognition. Clients now have the choice between using crowdsourcing or their own field team to collect the data, that is then processed and analyzed by BeMyEye’s tools.
BeMyEye upgrades their auditing app to the next level and changes the game for the industry: thanks to real-time Image Recognition, field teams can now get the shelf data and the issues to correct immediately after they take the pictures – making it possible for them to reach retail execution excellence.
